Good Morning People! Wild West road trip day 1 is over (tear) and here is a wee re-cap:
After packing our life up in a U-Haul all day, we finally hit the road at 4:30pm. We drove up some steep ass passes (the U-Haul did NOT like it and I think we were getting 1 mile to the gallon) so we decided to stop in Morgantown, WV to find a hotel and have some dinner. We quickly realized that the WV oil and gas convention of the year was hoppin’ in town (is there even oil and gas here, I thought it was all about the coal?) and we had no chance of finding a room. Either way, we could still eat in this cute college town right? WRONG! We made the rookie mistake of pulling into a parking lot that we could not drive out of and spent 30 minutes trying to figure out how to back our big rig out of the lot without hitting a car, losing our trailer off a cliff, hitting one of the many poles and signs or running into a building. After that little incident, and a few choice words, we decided to get out of dodge and here we are!
We woke up this morning at the Springhill Suites in lovely Washington, PA. How do you get here you ask? It’s off of I-79 just past the Wal-Mart, Applebees, Red Lobster, Cracker Barrel, Krispee Kream, McDonalds, Wendy’s, Ponderosa and Waffle House on the right. If you hit the Lowes parking lot you went too far.
The only fine dining open when we landed around 10:30pm was Applebees, so it seemed like the thing to do. We stuffed two mammoth plates of food and pounded three beers and walked away only $21.60 lighter – heehaw!
Indiana here we come! More from the road tonight.
P.S. – A HUGE shout out to Addy and Justin for helping us load the rig! Thanks for scrubbing the floors and walls Addy. Justin, thanks for helping Matt pack the truck and get Princess secured. For those of you who don’t know, that’s my car….No, I did not make up the nickname, she came with it.
